Dry Land Swim Workout to Make Your Rock

This workout is for you swimmers out there.

Especially, the swimmers who live in cold climates, and know you should to be at the pool swimming, but it’s just too freezing out to put a few layers of clothes on, warm up the car, drive the slip n’ slide road to the pool, sprint inside, change in a refrigerated locker room, then stand staring at the pool for 10 minutes before finally getting enough balls to jump into the ice water.

That was my exact situation yesterday.

So instead of getting tough, braving the frigid elements of Spokane, Washington and going to the pool, I invented the Official”Baby It’s Too Cold Outside to Drive to the Pool” Dry Land Swim Workout.

Here’s what you need for this dry land swim workout (yes, pretty much just 2 things): #1: Elastic bands: you can go to your local sports department store to get some elastic tubing, or go grab yourself some slightly more spendy, but more swim appropriate elastic tubing from Stretchcordz.

#2: Stability Ball: You can find these at a sporting goods store or online easily.

Warm-Up Time – get the heart rate up and pre-activate the core:

Next do overhead dumbbell presses, you can do this exercise while either seated or standing, hold both dumbbells at shoulder height with your palms facing up, and lift the dumbbells above your head until the elbows are fully extended. Press the dumbbells over your head until your arm is fully extended. Make sure you don’t completely lock your elbows. Return the weight to shoulder height and repeat immediately. You should complete 12 presses in about ninety seconds, if you can do more than this increase the weight.

Now repeat the step ups using your elevated pad for two more minutes.

Now we are ready for lower body squats, with both arms at your sides and with a dumbbell in each hand begin to bend at the knees while keeping your back straight. While bending your needs move your buttocks backwards. Ensure that you keep your back straight. Bend your knees until your thighs become parallel to the ground. Perform 20 squats in approximately 120 seconds.

Repeat this entire circuit and additional two times and finish off with stretching to cool down. This is important as it releases lactic acid from your muscles and prevents muscle soreness the next day.
